Most spa resorts in southwest Ohio are centered around Cincinnati, the region's largest city. If you're happy to seek relaxation and retreat in the midst of the metropolis, a few hotels can cater to your needs. If you prefer to remove yourself completely from the urban commotion, steal away to a spa in one of Ohio's smaller towns. If you're willing to drive slightly further, south-central Ohio offers a greater range of destinations than you'll find in the southwest.
Stay Near Cincinnati
For a spa getaway just half an hour from downtown Cincinnati, head to Great Wolf Lodge (greatwolf.com) in Mason. Though the lodge is perhaps best known for its on-site water park, adults also have plenty of access to relaxing treatments at the resort's Elements Spa Salon. The menu of available treatments includes deep massage, facials, reflexology, body wraps, makeup and waxing. If you're traveling with the kids, you can even pamper girls with a just-for-kids session of mani-pedis or a facial. Themed parties are available. For grown-ups, packages are available, lasting anywhere from 90 minutes to almost five hours.
Unwind in the Big City
If you're looking for a trip to Cincinnati that combines the big city atmosphere with plenty of pampering, book a spa weekend at the The Westin Cincinnati (starwoodhotels.com). The hotel's in-room spa package includes a basket with flowers, dark chocolates, spring water, relaxing music and a guide to the spa experience. The treatment lasts from an hour to 90 minutes and includes aromatherapy along with massage.
A Spa in a Castle
The Great Stone Castle Resort Bed and Breakfast, Lodge and Spa (greatstonecastle.com), in Sidney, Ohio, offers a full-service spa in a stately mansion. The resort is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is built of Indiana limestone, with decorative stone columns, three turrets and two acres of gardens and lawns. Guests can use the spa on the lower level, where treatments range from facials to hydrotherapy. Some of the more unusual services include a honey body polish, a chocolate body rub and a seaweed body wrap. A menu of packages includes experiences for individuals and for couples. Individual treatments last from 30 to 90 minutes.
While southwest Ohio doesn't have the broadest array of spa resorts, you can dramatically expand your options by traveling to south-central Ohio, around Logan and Rockbridge. In Logan, just an hour off Interstate 71, the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls (innatcedarfalls.com) specializes in spa-themed getaways. The inn is surrounded by Hocking Hills State Park. From its remote location, the on-site spa offers everything from massage to mud wraps. Guests receive mineral water, snacks, neck pillows and herbal tea, along with a robe and slippers for half-day treatments or those receiving mud wraps. Services include facial massage, bamboo massage, Thai yoga massage and reflexology treatments. Couples massages are also available. In nearby Rockbridge, Glen Laurel Inn (glenlaurel.com) also offers spa treatments in a rural environment. The menu of services features a range of massage therapies, including hot stone and deep tissue.
